The Pietra Dura mosaic “The Chocolate Girl” reinterprets Jean-Étienne Liotard’s masterpiece through the art of stone inlay. Each gemstone fragment – from soft cacholong to deep nephrite and rose rhodonite – carefully conveys the delicate posture of the maid and the warmth of her gesture. Marble and jasper build the light of the floor and wall, while violan and belomorite add subtle accents of blue and ivory. This mosaic is not only a tribute to Liotard’s precision and grace but also an example of how natural stones can bring classical art to life with timeless material beauty.
