What is Euchroite?
Euchroite is a rare hydrated copper arsenate known for bright green crystals and crusts in oxidised copper deposits.
Mineralogy and structure
Reference formula: Cu2AsO4(OH)·3H2O. Euchroite is orthorhombic, hydrated and arsenic-bearing. It is a collector mineral whose colour can overlap with other green copper arsenates.
Colour and appearance
Typical colours include bright green, blue-green. The usual prismatic, tabular, botryoidal habit and vitreous lustre are useful descriptive features, but colour alone is not diagnostic.
Formation and localities
Euchroite forms in or is associated with secondary oxidation zones of copper arsenide and sulfide deposits. Important documented localities include Slovakia, Germany, Chile, Mexico and selected European copper districts.
Collecting and care
Display only; avoid dust, abrasion and any preparation that could release arsenic-bearing particles.
Euchroite in popular symbolism
Modern crystal guides sometimes associate Euchroite with symbolic themes based on colour or collecting tradition. These associations are cultural interpretations, not mineralogical or medical properties.
