Phlogopite – Properties and Collecting

Phlogopite is a member of the mica group, known for its bronze to dark brown color and characteristic sheet-like crystal structure. It forms flexible, layered crystals with a pearly to vitreous luster, often creating reflective surfaces that are visually distinctive.

Unlike many minerals, phlogopite typically occurs as tabular or platy crystals rather than well-defined three-dimensional forms. Its appearance is defined by crystal thickness, surface quality, and the way light reflects from its cleavage planes.

Phlogopite is found in several geological environments, with notable occurrences in Russia, Canada, and Madagascar. Material from different localities may vary in color from golden brown to nearly black.

When selecting a phlogopite specimen, collectors focus on crystal size, thickness, luster, and overall condition. Intact plates with smooth surfaces and strong reflectivity are considered the most desirable.

In this collection, each phlogopite specimen is individually selected based on visual quality and collector appeal. You receive exactly the piece shown in the photos, with no stock images or substitutions. All items are securely packed and shipped from the European Union.
